Apres un Reve Op.7 #1 and Sicilienne Op.78

Score parts

Composer: Faure

Publisher: Doblinger

Instrumentation: Flute and Guitar

One of the leading French composers of his generation, Faure is considered to be the link between the end of Romanticism and the modernism of the second quarter of the 20th century.  The Apres un reve is an early work for Faure, and was originally for voice and piano.  It is a dream of romantic elopement with a lover, away from the darkness and towards an awakening light.  However, the dreamer also longs to return to the mysterious night.  Also included with this arrangement is the Sicilienne op78, which was originally written as incidental music for a play by Moliere.  It was not used for this purpose, and Faure included it in the incidental music for Maeterlinck's Pelleas et Melisande.  This arrangement of both pieces offer additional solos part for cello, as well as the words for a soprano--it can be performed as a flute and guitar duet, violin and guitar, oboe and guitar or cello and guitar.
