The Dance of Elizabeth by Clarence E Hurrell
For C or Db Piccolo and Piano

As 1602 drew to a close, it became apparent to the Court that the bright light which had so long illuminated the path of England's greatness was slowly flickering out. Elizabeth I, Queen of England (1558-1603), had always loved music and the dance, and in the bleak December of this dying year danced alone to the music of the pipe and tabor; like the tall thin flame of an ethereal candle.

This Queen, whose reign had fostered and inspired the arts of her beloved land, made this speech Elizabeth said, "Though God hath raised me high, yet this I count the glory of my crown: that I have reigned with your loves."
