Di quella pira from "Il Trovatore"
Composer: Verdi
Publisher: Adams Magnificent Music
Instrumentation: Flute and Harp

An Italian Romantic composer, mainly of opera, he was one of the most influential composers of the 19th century.  Il Trovatore comes from Verdi's middle period, and its English title is The Troubadour.  It is an opera in four acts, based on the play El Trovador by Antonio Garcia Gutierrez.  This aria is from the third act, and is sung by Manrico, the troubador and son of the gypsy woman Azucena.  Azucena has been captured by the Count Di Luna, and is to be burned at the stake.  Manrico rushes to her aid, singing this aria, translated in English as the horrid flames of that pyre.  An optional second part is offered, to create additional harmonies.
