Doppler Effect composed by Adrienne Albert
Version for C Flute, Alto Flute, and Piano commissioned by Duo Viva, Alice Lenaghan, and Mihoko Watanabe
Includes score and parts
Duration: 6 minutes

"Doppler Effect," is named after the Austrian Mathematician who observed the increse in the pitch of south as the source and observer get closer, and the decrease in pitch when the source passes by. The notion of writing a work based on this effect came to me while visiting Rome, Italy and hearing the cacophony of sounds as sirens passed by through the chaotic streets.  The motif begins, then descends by a minor second returning to the original pitch portraying the incessant sounds of car horns.  The melodic lines allude to the vibrancy, joy and sensuality of the people in contrast to the craziness around them.  "Doppler Effect," was originally written for flute, viola, and harp.
