French Suite #5 BWV 816
Composer: Bach, JS
Publisher: Theodore Presser
Instrumentation: Flute and Guitar
Originally written for harpsichord between the years of 1722 and 1725, this one of six suites, and were called French Suites to differentiate them from the English suites. The first few bars of this suite were written in 1722, but it was not completed until 1723. This suite is not in the original key of G, but in A major. The movements are Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Gavotte, Bourree, Loure and Gigue. A loure, also known as the gigue lente or slow gigue, is a French Baroque dance and was named after the sound of the instrument of the same name.
