Jesu, Joy of Man's DesiringFrom Cantata No. 147By J.S. BachFor 2 treble and 1 bass instrument
The well known "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," from J.S. Bach's Cantata #147, should be played quite legato and full. This is a lengthy arrangement to allow time for large wedding parties to make their way down the aisle, but there are a number of cadences throughout the piece which could provide appropriate stopping places if a shorter version is desired.
This arrangement can be successfully performed by many different combinations of instruments. Suggested combinations include flute, violin, cello; flute, oboe, cello; flute, oboe, bassoon; 2 flutes, bassoon; 2 violins, cello. Accordingly, articulation markings are few in order for each player to adapt the part to his or her own instrument.
