One of the prime intentions of The Imaginative Flute is to teach music in its 'aural creativity'. This book therefore comprises several parts. The first deals with the purely instrumental aspect, i.e. the traditional apprenticeship of the flute through working at exercises and pieces. Most of the pieces in this method have been harmonised so that they can be played in different ways, without changing their character or physiognony: solo, duet for pupils or for pupil/teacher, and also trio, whether accompanied or not by the piano. This work is complemented by workshops that give the pupil the opportunity of improving his/her ear and awakening musical imagination, both with aural exercises and through improvisation and composition. The pupil will also be able to familiarise himself/herself with simple techniques of contemporary writing, thanks to short pieces preceded by preparatory exercises.
