O Come, O Come, Emmanuel arranged by Ann Cameron Pearce for Flute Choir
Scored for 5 C Flutes, or 3 C Flutes, Alto Flute and Bass Flute

This tune is known as Veni Emmanuel from a 15th century processional of French Franciscan nuns, but some sources also place its origins with 8th century Gregorian traditions.  It is based on seven antiphons (short anthems sung alternating with short spoken verses) that typically began the week before Christmas.  A haunting modal melody, it has maintained its prominence during the Advent season throughout the years.  Just as the choirs of that day typically sang alternating lines of a plainsong from opposite sides of the chancel, this arrangement can be performed as an antiphonal procession.

Includes Optional Eb Flute part which replaces Flute 2 throughout the descant. From the pickup to measure #57 through the end, it doubles Flute 1.
