Pasquinade, Opus 59 composed by Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869)
Arranged by Anthony McDonald for Flute Choir; Piccolo, 4 C flutes, Alto flute, Bass flute

Written around 1869, Pasquinade, subtitled "Caprice" is a light, dance-like piece, composed for one of the many salon concerts that Gottschalk, a virtuoso pianist, gave throughout the United States and Europe. It features the rhythm of a gavotte, but also a syncopated second theme which foreshadows a style that will eventually become ragtime.
