Sensory Tune-upsBy Kay S. Hooper, B.M., M.M.Published by AllSense PressSpiralbound book
A guided journal of sensory experiences for performers of all ages.
Introduction: What is it like to perform music? Have you ever put it into words, colored it, sketched it, or danced it? Have you every told yourself the story of performance? How do you sense the wonder of it all? What is it like to practice music? Do you just play music over and over? When do you know that music is learned? As musicians, we improve by learning to play or sing in tune and by shaping the tunes that we play. We learn to tune out distractions while practicing and performing. We don't always tune in to ourselves, however, and that can make music-making less pleasurable and even painful. And we sometimes tune out information that would be very useful. This journal is designed to guide you through your personal process of music-making. It includes many questions and ideas and many blank spaces for expressing your responses. You may choose to draw, write, scribble, or do nothing on those blank spaces. Sometimes not knowing how to respond is a response in itself. Some ideas may need further study. Some repsonses may need to be danced rather than drawn or written. Go at your own pace and in no particular order. Find what interests you on a given day and be interested in it! Explore, expand, experience, tune in, tune up.
