Stride la vampa from "Il Trovatore"
Composer: Verdi
Publisher: Adams Magnificent Music
Instrumentation: Flute and Harp

An Italian Romantic composer, mainly of opera, he was one of the most influential composers of the 19th century.  Il Trovatore comes from Verdi's middle period, and its English title is The Troubadour.  It is an opera in four acts, based on the play El Trovador by Antonio Garcia Gutierrez.  This aria is from the second act, and is sung by Azucena.  She is the daughter of a Gypsy burnt by the count Di Luna, and though old, she still harbors a vengeance against the count.  The English translation of the title is the flames are roaring.
