This is one of the most recognizable melodies of all time. The "King of Ragtime" was Scott Joplin, an African-American composer/pianist who elevated the style to a serious art form. Born into a musical family in Arkansas, he taught himself to play the piano. He wrote may rags including The Easy Winners, The Entertainer and Leola.
