The Noisy Bird (L'Oiseau Tapgeur) by Louis BalleronRondo Polka for Piccolo and PianoEdited by Ervin Monroe
This delightful little piece for piccolo and piano was written by Louis Balleron, a nineteenth-century flutist who was the first flute in the L'OPera Comique. He composed this work for a friend, who often performed with him in concert. Though it is written for piccolo, it also works quite well when played on the flute.
This composition displays the virtuosity of the performer in a highly entertaining format. It contains many if the musical cliches used during this period, and the performer should exaggerate the quick rubato and flamboyant passages if this piece is to be effective. The Noisy Bird makes a great encore, or specialty program number. It is meant to be played in the spirit of musical fun.
