Trio in G Op16 #1 by Abel (1723-1787)
Edited by Ingo Gronefeld for two flutes and basso continuo
Basso continuo arranged by Friedrich Grunke
Includes score and parts

"Abel proved himself in his works a typical representative of the early classical period, greatly influenced by the Mannheim School and Johann Christian Bach, and he became an example for Mozart and J. Haydn.
Even today the music by Abel has lost nothing of its freshness and inspiration which appears especially clearly in the Trio for two flauti traversi and bass.  It is a very attractive work which can be played as trio sonata with basso continuo or as a plain trio without cembalo.  As model for our edition serves the set of printed parts of John Preston in London (ca. 1785) with the title:

Four Trios
two for
Two Flutes and a Bass
and two for
Flute, Violin, and Bass
Composed by
C.F. Abel
Opera XVI

This set parts is kept in the British Library, London, sign: g.420.e. (7.). For the preparation of the needed copies I should like to express myw armest thanks to the Archive in London.

Our edition reproduces in the score the exact text of the model, where all the additions by the editor are clearly marked.  In the separarte parts there markings were done away with for practical reasons. The realization of the non-figured bass in the model was made by Mr. Friedrich Grunke, to whom I want to express on this occasion my cordial thanks." -Ingo Gronefeld, Preface
