2 Sonatas La Flute AncienneEdited by Jean-Claude VeilhanContains a figured bass accompaniment only (no piano part)
In the present [Lecair] sonata "which may be played on the German flute", it is particularly interesting to observe how carefully the composer indicated precise musical notations or grace notes and their articulation. The interpreter is thus justified in respecting the composer's notations quite rigorously, as Leclair emphasises in the Foreword.
Taken from his numerous works for the transverse flute, the present [Blavet] sonata is characteristic of the refinement and elegance of Blavet's writing. The respiration signs (h) themselves constitute an invaluable document on phrasing desired by Blavet as well as an indication of speed (deduced from the intervals between the signs).
