Daily Exercises (Exercices Journaliers) by Marcel Moyse (1889-1984)

The low and high registers of the flute are generally practised less than the middle register, in which it is to be found the majority of music written for any instrument. This peculiarly also appears in the Studies. There are some which are written specially for the low and high registers; but most remain in the middle register, with only occasional departures from it. Consequently, students - and later, artists - feel less at ease in these two registers.

It is the author's intention to fill this gap. To this end, while still observing the musical principle which demands that exercise should normally begin and end on its fundamental note, he has adopted an approach which requires the performer to use the entire range of the flute each time. In this way, the lowest and highest extremities, where the chief difficulties are to be found, are not neglected and are practiced just as much as the rest.
