Elegy for September
Composed by Randall Snyder
For Native American Flute and Harpsichord
Published by JP / Zalo Publication

"Originally composed for lute, then arranged for harpsichord, Elegy for September combines harmony and rhythm of European Renaissance and Romantic music with the timbre and melodic nuance of the Indian flute. The first section evolves through a veiled impression which is interrupted by a more agitated section, only to return to the spirit of the beginning. The piece concludes with an arrangement of The Silver Swan, by Orlando Gibbons. Begun in early September, 2001, as a memorial to my father, Elegy ... unfortunately assumed more universal relevance with the unfolding of the tragic events of September 11, 2001." - Randall Snyder
