America's #1 flute specialty house since 1983.
Deborah J. AndersonThe Northwest Flute Collegium commissioned this work for its 1999 summer camp. The intention was that all the participants, regardless of level, would join in playing a piece together at the last day's performances. Visualizing 50 or 60 flutists playing at once, an old-world trumpet fanfare came to mind, resulting in this "turn of the millennium" fanfare for flutes. Designed for use with at least two alto and two bass flutes to provide solid rhythm in the lower ranges, "Fanfare" gives these parts the more challenging rhythmic changes. The C flute parts follow their lead. Although created specifically for a large group with alto and bass flutes at its disposal, "Fanfare" can also convey a feeling of joy and celeration when performed by smaller ensembles of C flute.
