America's #1 flute specialty house since 1983.
Of Dreams and Promises speaks to experiences which we have all had, of both happy and unhappy combinations of these real and unreal aspects. The piece has no hidden autobiographical references; instead it hopefully speaks to the universality of such experiences. The first movement clearly requires sustained lyricism throughout. The second movement requires this in a less obvious way; the long slurs going across rests suggest extended phrases. Both movements exist in slightly different versions as pieces for the shinobue, a Japanese transverse flute.
