Sequences are an important part of technique practice and scales are the most well known sequences. However it is often more enjoyable to play a more melodic passage which is easier on the ear. This doesn’t mean that you should ignore scales, but other exercises should be introduced for technique which will help develop your sense of key and harmony, and which are fun at the same time. This book introduces sequences for developing tone, technique, articulation and phrasing with suggestions for changing articulation and rhythm.

Basic methods for practising technique:
1. The speeds indicated are only a guidline, so start slowly and gradually build up to the tempo marked - or beyond-if you are able to do so.
2. Change the rhythms and articulation.
3. Practise in small groups at first.  Later on join the groups together.
4. These exercises need to be played beautifully.  If you concentrate on your phrasing, the sequences become easier.
5. Learn the passage from memory.

When you practise technique exercises, accuracy, is at first, far more important than speed.
