Solos and Duets for C Instruments and Accompaniment
Arranged by John F. Wilson

Because there appears to be a burgeoning interest in instrumental music in the church, Hope Publishing Company is pleased to present Solos and Duets for C Instruments, by Senior Editor John F. Wilson. One of the goals for this collection has been to provide enough variety in musical styles to meet the needs of most school, church and/or concert musicians.

The level of difficulty of these arrangements is from moderately easy to moderately difficult, and there are numerous combinations of instruments which can be used. The most obvious combinations are:

2 violins
2 flutes
1 violin and 1 oboe
1 violin and 1 flute
1 flute and 1 oboe

The ranges are ideal for violins and flutes, and Part Two is fine for the oboe. However, other instruments can be used on several of the arrangements, such as trumpets, clarinets, soprano saxophones, violas and celli, if the players are able to read the scores in concert pitch. The parts are basically interchangeable, so you may want to shift instruments "midstream": to avoid difficult ranges or tessitura problems.

All arrangements are for 2 solo instruments and keyboard, except for "Bicinium" which is for two unaccompanied solo instruments. Yet they all can be played by one soloist plus the keyboard by playing Part One and following the inter-staff line, plus some occasional cues and special notations for the accompanist.
