Performance Notes: The inspiring music by this painist/composer possesses the influencing characteristics of mixed jazz and classical. Past reviews of his compositions have included words and phrases such as "evoking an emotional response - a new musical sensibility - unpretentious and sensitive - poetic, sad or melancholy, yet very enjoyable - peaceful and tranquil". How appropriately these lovely pieces seem to coalesce with the performance characteristics of the Native flute when we speak of this instrument's tonal resonance, and its ability to evoke a spirituality. The flute's extended capabilty - to join in the diatonic and chromatic flavors of the colorful chordal textures in the accompaniments - adds a new contemporary styled melodic expression. A unique beauty is enjoyed - even the player becomes mesmerized. The phrase lines are alive and more vibrant as the use of vibrato is contrasted with the sensitively expressed straight tone of the flute. The appoggiaturas and pitch glides, effective expressions of tradition in Native American flute playing, offer a beautiful interruption of the melodic flow. Listening to others who have commented on the emotionality of this composer's musical style, we hear, - "vibrant, alive, yet beautifully simple in its structure - honest music - music that comes from the heart". (ed. note: Coincidentally, the Native American believes, "his music is from the heart")
