The Sub-Aether Bande
Composer: Bathory-Kitsz
Publisher: Westleaf Edition
Instrumentation: Flute and Percussion

Hypnotic and mysterious, The Sub-Aether Bande (a reference to a Douglas Adams term from his iconic “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”) asks the flutist to tap and hum and create effects, all the while maintaining a thrumming interchange with the drummer.  Its nine sections, “Background Noyse”, “Oyez, Please”, “Compreffion”, “Translating, Attend”, “Interpolation”, “Revelation and Panicke”, “Dinner Preparations”, “Tunyng and Longyng” and “Sub Rosa” are hints at an earlier time of medieval music, self-accompanied with a small drum, as if it had been transported to a space ship hovering above a distant planet. The flute solo is a tour-de-force of focus and endurance, leaving performer and audience breathless.
