Program Notes:
Louis Drouet (1792 - 1873) was born in Amsterdam, the son of a Frenchman who fled the excesses of the French Revolution. As a child he was regarded as a flute-playing prodigy. His serious study began in 1807, and in 1808, he received an appointment as flutist to the King of Holland.
Drouet travelled widely in Europe and visited America in 1854. At various times he lived in France, England, and Germany. He wrote a large volume of music, most of which is lost.
These excellent studies have survived, and they are most useful at the intermediate level. As with all studies, their value can be enhanced by varying rhythms, dynamics and articulations, or by transpositions to other keys.
