Instrumentation: flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon
Score and parts
This piece is named after St. Machar’s Cathedral in Aberdeen. It has two distinctive spires and stands in the old part of the city. It was commissioned by the Sospiri Wind Ensemble, specifically asking for tuneful, lyrical music that evokes countryside and space. The piece has a live and folk-like feel with a gentle middle section. It has colorful scoring with a view to the equal involvement of all five performers.
