Description
A la sonnerie – Three Duet Waltzes composed by Kathrin Beddig
Written for two flutes
Includes score only
The title is modelled on the work of the same name by Marin Marais, which he wrote with a three-note ostinato bass part. The composer based the first duet waltz on a four-bar Flamenco structure. La sonnerie (the peal of bells), the second duet waltz, refers to the bright tone of the flute emulating classical flute clock pieces. In this piece, the accompanying melody line also has a harmonic function. The recollection of the chiming sound of the Janissaries was the inspiration for the third duet waltz. It is based on the Turkish sernai rhythm.
