A Lad, A Love, and a Lassie (Three Burns Songs) arranged by Mel Orriss
Instrumentation: piccolo, 4 c flutes, alto flute, bass flute
Score and parts
This suite uses three traditional songs either written or used by Robert Burns. The first, “O Whistle, and I’ll Come to You, My Lad” captures the youthful excitement of a secret flirtation; it is lively and light in style with plenty of dynamic contrast. The second, and most well known is “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose”; this features a semplicesolo quartet verse, as well as more expressive tutti sections. The final song is the somewhat manically triumphant “I Ha’e a Wife o’ My Ain” which races by in a fugal style.
