Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg on May 7, 1833, and died in Vienna on april 3, 1897.
Although not so named, this third movement from his Symphony No. 4 is a fully developed Scherzo and is probably one of the most exuberant and up-beat movements of his four symphonies.
It should be performed in an aggressive, jubilant spirit with well defined articulation.
This flute orchestra arrangement will always sound richer by doubling the lower flutes.
