Composed by Matthew Santa
For flute choir
Published by Conners Publications
Includes score and parts
A modern American composer, Matthew Santa is also a published author. This arrangement (c. 2012) imagines the tune “Amazing Grace” in the context of a soul entering Heaven for the first time. It begins with a meditative and peaceful introduction that is almost minimalist. That gives way to two choruses of the familiar melody, the first presented in a stately chorale-style setting, the second as gospel-infused, rich with complex harmonies and a driving sense of swing.
Scored for 3 C flutes (one doubling on piccolo), 2 alto flutes, bass flute
