The autograph manuscript of these two pieces, originally for two clarinets, two horns, and two bassoons, is to be found in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, Ms. 408. The Rondo comes first, having been completed on June 24, 1808. The Andante is dated July 6 of the same year. In the 1970 Musica Rara Edition prepared by Georgiana Dobrée for the original instrumentation, the Andante appears first.
