Ascendo ad Patrem
Composed by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594)
Arranged by David H. Bailey for Flute Choir
Published by Falls House Press
Includes score and parts
The rhythmic and contrapuntal nature of this late Renaissance Italian music represents an important stylistic contribution to the flute choir repertoire. All parts are of equal value, and the beauty of the music lies in the interweaving of the voices and proper phrasing. There were no dynamics in the original score, but it is understood that they will follow with the melody and the resolutions of the phrases. (Further program information may be found in the preface to the score.)
Scored for Piccolo, Eb flute (or C flute), C flute, alto flute, bass flute.
*HONORABLE MENTION in the 1996 Newly-Published Music Competition.
