Beach Music by Catherine McMichael
For 2 C Flutes, Alto Flute and Bass Flute
Includes score and parts
Duration: 10:00
Beach Music was commissioned by The Long Island Flute Club and was premiered October 3, 2004 by the club. Long Island is part of the greater New York City metropolitan area, and a very busy place, with crowded highways, grumbling trains, screeching planes, bustling cities, towns and villages. But there is a place of peace, of fresh air and bird calls not far away from any Long Islander, and that is the gleaming edge of beaches that faces the Atlantic Ocean.
Beach Music is an impressionistic through-composed on-movement piece that paints a picture of that magic time in the late afternoon, the deep sigh of relief as one takes off the workday shoes and places that bare foot on the cool sand, hears the birds, the shush of waves, sees the sparkle of sun on the water, watches the tide go out and the sun go down, taking the day's care with it.
