Bonnie Blue Flag (The Irish Jaunting Car)
Traditional Irish Melody and song of the Civil War
Arranged for flute trio with piano or clarinet trio with piano
Bonnie Blue Flag is also known as The Irish Jaunting Car and is a lightly played, march-style piece. It was well known in the Civil War Era as the unofficial song of the Confederacy when Harry McCarthy wrote words for the Irish melody that represent the Confederate Flag. As the song became popular during the war, both sides sang it with their respective lyrics so its popularity grew.
