This traditional melody is arranged to used the unique colors of a woodwind quartet. The arrangement starts with an introduction based on the first phrase of the melody. It then leads to a modal sounding counter-melody which functions as an ostinato under the melody of the flute. Then there is a short duet between the flute and oboe followed by a short duet between the clarinet and bassoon (or bass clarinet). A key change, a bassoon (bass clarinet) solo, and the return of the full ensemble brings the piece to a pleasing end.
