Bugler's Dream (Olympic Fanfare)
Composed by Leo Arnaud (1904-1991)
Arranged for Expandable Flute Choir by Ricky Lombardo
Published by Lombardo Music Publications
Duration: 3 minutes
Includes score and parts
Performance Notes:
The first 16 measures of the “Bugler's Dream” states the very recognizable melody used on the televised broadcasts from the Olympic Games. One may choose to use this section alone if just a fanfare is needed. There are several tempo changes that occur throughout the arrangement, which must be adhered to in order to achieve the flow of the music. The final section recapitulates to the original theme. I feel confident this will be a very enjoyable publication to play and perform for the musicians. Additionally, it will be a delight for the listening audience. Whether using the beginning section alone or the entire arrangement, this will be a wonderful addition to the flute choir library and repertoire. Enjoy! – Ricky Lombardo
The Expandable Form:
The concept of the expandable form gives a great deal of versatility in any flute choir situation. This arrangement works successfully using a quartet of “C” flutes on the first four parts. As instruments are added they expand harmonic support, reinforce a line of another part and/or introduce new counter melodies. The integrity of the arrangement is never compromised. It is only enhanced. The expandable flute choir arrangement has been widely embraced by flute choirs worldwide.
