Bumblebee Fantasy, arranged Ann Cameron Pearce
Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee becomes enmeshed with the themes of ten other familiar classical pieces in unexpected ways! The composer advises that the tempo should be maintained throughout and all dynamics carefully observed. While this is playable using only C flutes, the addition of the piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute greatly expand the tonal color and interest.
Among the Bumblebee's encounters are 'Aslo Sprach Zarathustra' (Richard Strauss), 'Allegro' from Sonata #4 (JS Bach), 'Moment Musical' (Schubert), 'Humoresque' (Dvorak), 'Minute Waltz' (Chopin), 'Melody in F' (Rubenstein), 'Symphony #5″, first movement (Beethoven), 'Scherzo' (Mendelssohn), 'Pomp and Circumstance” (Elgar). and 'Serenade' from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart).
Scored for six-part Flute ensemble (parts 1,2, and 3 are divisi): 9 C flutes or 7 C flutes (one doubling on piccolo), alto flute, bass flute
