Christmas Exhultations arranged for 4 C Flutes by Catherine McMichael
Includes score and parts
The carols in Christmas Exultations were chosen for their joyful, exultant mood. Some of the figures in the pieces are reminiscent of pealing bells in change-ringing style. The flute's high timbre lends itself well to the bright expressiveness of these pieces.
Each part in these arrangements has a chance at the melody, and the parts are even in range and difficulty. Although the settings are arranged for all C flutes, many groups like to use their alternate instruments. Therefore, an alto part is included for the flute 4 part in all of the carols. The alto adds a deeper dimension to the sound, but is not necessary for a satisfying performance. The alto 4 part should always be doubled with C, since some of the octave transpositions put the alto's melody in a less projecting way.
