Crown Him by George J. Elvey
Arranged by Dan Marvin
Piano score is written for Piano with transposed Bb trumpet as the solo instrument; includes solo violin part for C instruments
The tune for this hym was composed by 19th Century English organist Sir George J. Elvey, while the lyrics were written by two different individuals. Matthew Bridges wrote the original lyrics in the 1851, and he had been a former Anglican who converted to being Roman Catholic. A devout Anglican clergyman, Godfrey Thring, was concerned that the popular hymn was allowing Catholic theology to be sungby protestant congregations. Because of this, he also wrote a set of lyrics. The current version of the hymn is an actually sharing of the two lyricists, with three stanzas from each of them.
