Piece #1 for flute and oboe

Piece #3 for oboe and clarinet
A 20th century American composer, he was well known for his orchestral and dance pieces. Along with Cowell, Ives, Ruggles and Becker, he was a member of the group of American modernist composers know as the “American Five”. He is also noted for being one of the first American composers to use a form of twelve-tone technique, with these multimovement duos reflecting that technique. The first duo is for flute and oboe, the second is for flute and clarinet and the third is for oboe and clarinet. The composer even notes that his intention was that the flute would be able to play the third duo in place of the oboe.
