Fantasie “Du bist die Ruh” on a Theme by Franz Schubert for Flute and Piano by Daniel Linton-France
This piece was composed for the participation of the duo Xavier Luck and Daniel Linton-France in the 5th International competition “Franz Schubert and the Music of Modernity” in Graz, Austria, 2003. The repertoire of the competition consisted of works by Boulez, Isang Yun, Hans Zender and others, and of course the Variations on the Lied “Trockne Blumen” by Schubert. The competition also required two “Lieder” by Schubert arranged for flute and piano. Instead of playing the Boehm arrangements, Linton-France decided to arrange and compose his own version of the Lied “Du bist die Ruh,” which appeared a natural thing to do in the context of “Franz Schubert and the Music of Modernity.” The piece gained much appraisal and was awarded a special prize by the president of the competition em. O. Univ. Prof. De. Dr. h.c. Otto Kolleritsch.
