The First Step in Flute Playing by Louis Moyse
Based on short, easy, original and harmonious melodies in duet form
This book is divided into three parts. The first deals with only the low register of the flute, the second with the middle register, and the third with the high register. This is done purposely, in a progressive way, to correspond with the different positions of the lips in the three registers. Attempting to learn the higher notes too soon mighy develope stiffness of the embouchure and jeopardize the development of the basic and absolutely necessary flexibility required of the lips.
Each piece is written in a different key. By the end of the book the student will have covered all Major and Minor keys progressively (the complete cycle of sharps and flats).
It is recommended that this book be used with the guidance of a teacher, as it is not meant to be a do-it-yourself method book.
