Fishlegs & Zipline by Michael Isaacson
For Piccolo and Piano
A small, simple piece celebrating childhood summers.
“The next best thing to childhood summertime has to be celebrating summers with one's children. Perhaps the adult experience is even better! Why? Because all the things one never had the opportunity to do (or do well) during one's growing years can still be relished through the accomplishments of their children.
Fishlegs is a summer 1989 nickname given to our 11 1/2 year old son Ari (because he swims magnificently and as effortlessly as he walks), and Zipline is my moniker for our 8 year old younger son Andy (because he intrepidly climbed an 80 foot redwood tree at Camp Swig in Saratoga, California, and zipped down a diagonal line at a breakneck speed to the uncontrolled cheers of his daddy).
The music, which I composed after I calmed down from the exhilaration of an afternoon's “second summer syndrome” is simply a quiet thank you for life's many gifts from their mom and me to our own delightfully, dynamic duo, Fishlegs and Zipline.” -Michael Isaacson
