Description
Five Lyrics for Flute and Piano by Jan Krzywicki
Duration: 17:00
Five Lyrics is a suite of short pieces based on haiku-like poems by W.S. Merwin and a haiku by the great Japanese poet Basho. Each movement focuses on a bird(s) in nature at a particular time of day, the succession of which creates a dawn to moonlight cycle. In the last movement, the “dreams” consist of musical memories of the previous movements. While not directly quoting a given bird’s song, hints can be heard throughout. Commissioned through the Anthony P. Checchia Composer Project of the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society
1. Daybreak, mist in valley… 2. Breasts of swallows turning… 3. As the cuckoo flies… 4. Light evening rain… 5. Birds hidden in moonlit boughs… |
