Flute Aerobics: Scales
By Chris Potter
Calorie burning fun!
Fomerly titled “Flute Scale Rounds.”
Foreword:
I was inspired to write this book when I found myself consistently not paying attention to my usual regimen of scales and was uninspired by other patterns that I tried. A fellow flutist had given me the idea of what is now major scale and arpeggio rounds and I and my students found them refreshing and fun, but challenging.
Chromatic scales have been a weakness of my technique, so I have included an extensive section that will give you a real workout. I also wanted to include whole tone scale exercises, pentatonic exercises and blues scales – why should those jazz players have all the fun?
For those who aspire to be professional players, be sure to include the optional measure with the notes above high C; you need to feel comfortable in this register. – Chris Potter
