Gaea for Flute and Piano by Deborah J. Anderson
Based upon Native American philosophies and traditions, Gaea is the ancient Greek Goddess of the Earth. The movements are: Fire, Earth, Water, Air. There is an optional spoken part with Water.
This work draws upon studies of Native American philosophies and transitions, honoring the four elements which are at the basis of these teachings. Gaea is the ancient Greek goddess of the earth. The first movement “Fire”, portrays not only this element’s outward, unpredictable, and wild aspect, but also honors the fire within us. “Earth” invites celebration of the beauty and magic of our planet and joy in life. “Water” evokes some of the deeper emotions that almost no one escapes. “Air” speaks of the swirling wind but also gentle breezes, and the changeable directions of thought and inspiration.
