Performance Notes:
Gwion is a pseudonym, the name of an English poet of the twelfth century corresponding to the Irish hero Fionn. Robert Graves wrote a lot about him in the beautiful book The White Goddess. In my imagination the principle melodies of this piece have a lot do do with Ireland, where I have never been. I'd like to hear a strong rhythmic feeling in the center part; the pizzicato there has to be forte, as a double-bass pizzicato.
