This French Christmas carol is based on a 17th century melody, but the lyrics first appeared between 1875 and 1876. The composer of this piece, Robert Beaser, is a modern American composer. The arrangement was premiered in the 1982 PBS special “Christmas at the Kennedy Center with Leontyne Price”.
