La ronde de l’an (Around the Year) by Henri Ibert
Five Pieces for 3 flutes and small percussion (i.e. tambourine, woodblock, toms, chimes, bass xylophone).
These five well-known songs from the traditional French repertoire refer to particular occasions of the festive calendar:
- Noel: Michaut veillait
- Carnival: Mardi-Gras s’en este alle
- Le Printemps: C’est le joli mois de Mai
- L’Ete: Voici la Saint-Jean
- L’Automne: La vigne au vin
The songs are harmonized for three “equal voices” that often share the thematic line. They involve the melodic, rhythmic and even harmonic support of little percussion instruments, easy to handle and widely used in music-schools, such as tambourine, woodblock, toms, chimes or mellophone, bass xylophone, that will be distributed among two young performers. The choice of instruments should enable them to achieve a great variety of timbres and enjoy the experience of making music together.
None of the parts require a high proficiency level: their main objective is to foster ensemble playing.
