I regularly play the flute and alto flute for prelude and offertory at the Presbyterian church we have attended for over twenty-five years. It’s a wonderful church with excellent teaching and the music mainly consists of hymns, canticles, and psalms. I have arranged these hymns specifically for solo flute with the following in mind:
+ Lent is a season of repentance where we prepare for the triumph of Easter. Sometimes simplicity is best. I endeavored to be creative without including passages that are flashy or virtuosic. We play for his glory and not our own.
+ The hymns included express biblical truth and have been tested by time. They are suitable for corporate worship, small group settings, and private devotions.
+ They should be accessible for amateur and professional flutists alike. —– Carolyn Krysl-Hutchinson
