“Mariposas is the Spanish word for butterflies. The piece loosely follows stages of a butterflies short and glorious existence… from cuckoo to larvae to free flight; hovering, swooping, floating. It was written for Pamela Youngblood, the Texas Woman’s University, and requires for the 2001 National Flute Convention in Dallas, Texas.” – K. Hoover.
